About this position

A liveable future for all, that's what we contribute to, as the Naval & Offshore Structures department. We design, analyse, and test a wide variety of mechanical structures for the maritime, offshore, and defence industries, with a particular focus on the dynamic behaviour of structures, often under extreme conditions. Composites have an increasingly important role in this, for example for offshore wind turbine blades and for our future naval vessels. Composites are interesting because of their special characteristics, such as their high strength-to weight-ratio, but also because of the possibilities to integrate sensors, for example. Our department Around 50 highly motivated experts with backgrounds in marine engineering, civil engineering, aerospace, and mechanical engineering work in the Naval & Offshore Structures department. Our main market areas are defence and maritime & offshore. Thanks to our well-equipped lab, practical and theoretical knowledge go hand in hand, perfectly positioning us to solve even the most complex problems. Examples of our research range from shock-resistant ship structures to the structural safety of offshore wind turbines and the safe use of alternative fuels. We're working on today's challenges: the energy transition and the increasing focus on safety at sea.

What will be your role?

As a Composite Structures Scientist, you'll work on the behaviour of composite structures under a wide variety of conditions. What we expect from you

You have a university degree with a specialisation in the field of mechanics and/or structural dynamics, with work experience in the composite sector. You have a solid theoretical foundation, have mastered numerical techniques, and also have a practical understanding of the behaviour of composite structures. Experience with the composite manufacturing process and/or structural health monitoring is a plus.
In addition to substantive expertise, we attach value to communication skills and a focus on clients and results in order to work as a team towards an end result that is useful and applicable for our clients. You have demonstrable experience in writing scientific reports or publications and have a good command of the English language both verbally and in writing. Command of the Dutch language is a plus.
